If you’ve trained with us before or follow us on social media, you’ve probably heard us say this over and over, “Safety is an illusion.” What does it mean exactly?

Law and order is maintained only through an unwritten social contract: government sets the rules, people follow the rules, and police enforce those rules.

The problem is that criminals never signed that contract. Criminals DON’T follow any rules — they’re criminals!

That means that violence can strike at any time, anywhere. And violence doesn’t care if you’re rich, if you live in a nice neighborhood, or if you own a black belt or a Beretta. Violence can strike you down at any moment if you don’t have the toolset, skillset, and (especially) the defensive mindset.

This T-shirt is an important reminder to not take anything for granted and to always be prepared.
