BIOGRAPHY

A combatives instructor with 40-plus years of continual experience, Dr. Conrad Bui is on a mission to empower others through the magic (and science) of martial arts. When he’s not healing bodies as a chiropractor, he’s learning and teaching others how to break them.

As a small Asian kid who faced discrimination while growing up in Denver, he studied Aikido under his father to defend himself against bullies.

After watching Enter the Dragon, his passion for martial arts (and his self-confidence) quickly developed. Next, Dr. Bui trained in Tae Kwon Do and American Freestyle Karate. This kickstarted (pun intended!) his path to competing in combat sports, quickly racking up trophies at tournaments all over Colorado. While in college, he converted that knowledge in the ring to success on the streets, serving as a bouncer at a bar. Fights were commonplace at the watering hole, allowing Dr. Bui to observe and participate in a fair number of real-life altercations.

After graduating chiropractic college, Dr. Bui trained in a diverse mix of systems — from the bladed art of Pentjak Silat Serak, to Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that dominate the UFC today.

As a former bar bouncer (a really small one), he knows what it takes to survive a street fight. And as a master in more than one art, he knows how to teach others how to do the same. His unique combination of real-world experience, championships in combat sports at the international level, and extensive research into the fighting arts places him at an elite level among instructors.

Naturally, he’s sought after by international publications as a subject-matter expert, writing for such magazines as Recoil Offgrid and Black Belt.

Despite a life-time of training, tournaments and trophies, Dr. Bui considers himself your average, everyday dude and is very approachable. Today, bullies don’t stand a chance against him and his students.

TRAINING BACKGROUND

Copies of his instructor certifications, his sports combat championships, and his full training resume are available upon request. His credentials include:

5th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and American Freestyle Karate
Korea’s Tae Kwon Do is a combat sport with an emphasis on spectacular kicks, fast punching, and tournament fighting. American Freestyle Karate is an eclectic system that incorporates traditional Asian martial arts with modern self-defense techniques.

Instructor/Coach in Muay Thai
Muay Thai is a vicious combat sport often seen in the UFC and is based on an ancient military warfare from Thailand.

Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
With origins in Japan, this Brazilian combat sport specializes in chokes, joint locks, takedowns, and ground defense. Its use by world champions has made it popular in the UFC, Mixed Martial Arts, and even in military units around the globe.

Guro (Full Instructor) in Nubreed Kali
Kali is an up-close-and-personal fighting system from the Philippines that specializes in edged and impact weapons, with both empty-hand and grappling applications.

Guru (Full Instructor) in Pentjak Silat Serak
Originating in Indonesia, Serak is a deadly close-quarters combat system that utilizes bladed weapons and empty-hand combatives, exploiting extreme leveraging to devastating effects.

Sigung (Master Level) in Kuntao Silat deThouars
This brutal fighting art encompasses everything from bone-crushing striking and deadly knife techniques to throws and joint locks. This Chinese-Indonesian system has both incredible depth and vast breadth, with strong influence from ancient Chinese concepts.

Sigung (Master Level) in Ying Lung Hsing
Ying Lung Hsing consists of China’s big three internal martial arts: Tai Chi, Ba Gua, and Hsing Yi. Though considered “soft” arts, they have a wealth of empty-hand combatives in addition to their health benefits.

Sifu (Full Instructor) in Jeet Kune Do Concepts
Bruce Lee created this “scientific street-fighting” method, which is considered by many to be the first modern form of Mixed Martial Arts. This hybrid system and martial arts philosophy includes boxing, Wing Chun, sword fencing, and grappling.

Certified Pistol Instructor
Dr. Bui is currently certified to teach handgun fundamentals — which involves safe storage, proper handling, and (of course) how to accurately and effectively shoot in defense of yourself and your loved ones.

Certified Instructor of “Personal Protection in the Home”
Dr. Bui is certified to teach this specialized program that shows students the necessary knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to use a handgun in defense of their family inside their home, as well as vital information on the individual’s right to self-defense.
